In this novel we can see that the main point of the book is the friendship between Gene and Finny. Gene does not really trust Finny and he doesn't know what to think about him. I think that Finny was a manipulative person because he wants to make people, especially Gene, listen to him and do what he tells him to do. There is an example in the book when he wants Gene jump out of tree, even though he was afraid.
A separate Peace can be thought of as a war novel. During World War 2 none of the boys can escape it. When they graduate, they'll have to enlist. We can see the difference between the childhood and adult-hood. In their childhood they played sports. Many of the boys in the novel realize that the war was one of the main reasons, that they had misunderstanding.
Gene wanted to be life Finny, and he was jealous of him. An example of jealousy in relationship is ch2 p25 "It was hypnotism. It was beginning to see that Phineas could get away with anything. I couldn't help envying him that a little, which was perfectly normal. There was no harm in envying even your best friend a little." I think here, we see that Gene was somewhat jealous of Phineas and that their friendship could not be without fights. The jealousy depends on how people treat one another.
At the end we can see that jealousy makes a big difference, and it is an emotion that makes people become unfair to each other. At the beginning of the novel, the characters are different and selfish, but at the end they change completely. Gene became peaceful through the situation that happened with Finny. He realized that he lost his friend, and that he was embarrassed. Peace is good. Peace is when a person is not afraid, it is when everyone is comfortable and happy.
