A Tale of Two Cities: Recalled To Life

A Tale of Two Cities took places in two cities: Paris, France and London, England. As I've started reading this book, I noticed that throughout the story characters are "recalled to life". "Recalled to Life" means that they have a new chance to life. This phrase can have a lot of different meanings but it depends on the book and how you understand it.

There are a lot of examples where characters are recalled to life. First I want to talk about Doctor Manette. He was in prison for eighteen years, and all he was doing there is making shoes. After he got out of prison he didn't know what to do, he was so disappointed that he continued making shoes because that was all he can do. Lucie, his daughter, is going to meet him for the first time in her life. Lucie was a kind and gentle girl, and she really wanted to care about her father and get to know him. A lot of people thought that for Dr.Manette it is not possible to have a good life, or be okay as he was before, but as we can see, Lucie showed them that it just takes a while, and takes a lot of patience. She wanted to be with her father, she wanted him a good life, she wanted him to feel good and healthy, ans she knew it is going to take a lot of time but she was ready to do this.

Another situation that i've read about is Charles Darnays' trial. Charles Darnay is on trial for treason in England. Sydney Carton represents Darnay in this trial, and Sydney saves his life from death. I think that through this situation Darnay is "recalled to life".

A new chance to life is like when you get out of a horrible situation and you have a new chance to live your life differently. These situations make me think because people suffered a lot. The example I gave you about Dr.Manette and his daughter showes that Lucie is a hero because for the first moment she saw him, she already wanted to touch him, care about him, and help him. But If I were Lucie, I probably wouldn't act like her because for me it would be so hard to accept this person, my father. For us, It is a good example of forgiving people and taking care of them even if we don't know them because God said that we have to love each other no matter what happens.

  1. Good essay. I could think about the meaning of "Recalled to Life". Just one thing i thought you need to correct is the conclusion. I couldn't find the thesis statement in your conclusion. So I think you need to show your main point in conclusion more. :)

  2. I think this is a great essay about the recurring theme of being "recalled to life." It makes me wonder about the poor in Paris in 1775 who are feeling increasingly dead and hurt. Do you think a revolution will recall them to life? or do you think being recalled to life happens less violently?
